FAQs
-
To make an appointment you may contact me directly. You do not need to be referred by a psychiatrist or your GP. However, if you are claiming through your private health insurance company it may be necessary for a referral. You are encouraged to verify this before making an appointment.
-
An initial consultation is an opportunity to discuss what brings you along for therapy or coaching, what your hopes and expectations are. I will then be able to recommend a way forward for you - an appropriate therapeutic approach, based both on my clinical experience and knowledge of research evidence. However, collaboration is central to my way of working and I am always keen to respect my clients’ preferred way of addressing their difficulties.
-
The number of sessions depends upon your goals for our work together, and whether we go down a therapy (medium to long-term work) or coaching (short-term) route. This is something we will agree on together during our first contacts.

The therapy I offer tends to be exploratory and open ended, offering a deep dive into the rules you’ve been operating with, how they came to be and in-depth support in moving forwards. Coaching is brief, focussed work identifying your existing rules and considering ways to achieve sustainable change. Coaching might be suitable if you’re going through a life transition or have been in psychotherapy before and are now looking for a targeted intervention.

Attending an initial consultation does not commit you to ongoing 1:1 work. Many people are unsure about starting therapy/coaching, and an initial appointment can help with making that decision. It will be your choice whether to book another appointment, or take some time to consider whether I am the right therapist for you. Additionally, I am always happy to have a brief introductory call to address any questions or concerns.

Research consistently shows that the relationship between a client and therapist is central in facilitating change. With this in mind, I endeavour to provide a safe, non-judgemental and empathic environment in which my clients can explore their difficulties. I always encourage people to consider whether I am a ‘good fit’ for them, and it can be helpful to shop around for a therapist with whom you feel at ease.
-
I understand you may be concerned to know whether what you speak about in therapy or coaching will remain confidential. From the first contact, any information a client gives me is treated with the utmost confidentiality. During the initial consultation, issues of confidentiality are discussed, agreed and any questions answered. Please also see my Privacy Policy.
